Education and Training

As the financial industry evolves, the future will present us with great opportunities and challenges. DRW recognizes its most valuable asset is human capital. To enable our employees to contribute in a meaningful way, DRW has developed an extensive education and training program.

The DRW Education

  • Multiple Trading Classroom Courses. The first course teaches the basics of derivative trading, strategies, risk management, and probability. Fred Schuster, trader and DRW partner, adds over 20 years of trading experience to the theories of the classroom material and teaches the class both theoretical strategy and practical applications. The second course delves deeper into option theory and the real mechanics behind trading options, futures, and other derivatives including options and future pricing models. It provides an extensive look at all interest rate products including swaps, curve trading, and treasury basis. The specialized expertise of in-house guest lecturers and guest professors combined with the wide-ranging experience of Mr. Schuster gives our students an in-depth look into specific areas of trading and instills an overall understanding of trading theory and its implementation.  More advanced technical classes are taught using proprietary software and tools.
  • Mock Trading. Theory meets real-life experience in the mock trading environment. In open outcry and proprietary electronic trading platforms, employees put their skills and knowledge to the test while adapting to changing market conditions.   Mock trading offers Trader Assistants an opportunity to hone their trading skills in a simulated environment in preparation for the challenges they will face on the fast-paced exchanges.
  • Software Boot Camp.  DRW offers education specifically designed for our Software Engineers.  In this course, students will solve interesting development problems and anticipate their career as a software engineer at DRW.  This intense training will prepare our Software Engineers so they can hit the ground running once they join their team.
  • Tuition and Training Reimbursement. DRW offers ongoing professional development and continuing education, enabling employees to further their careers at DRW and stay current with advances in technology.  DRW has established a tuition reimbursement policy to help defray the costs associated with continuing education and allow employees to obtain additional skills as their careers continue to grow.
  • Mentor Program. Each full-time and intern employee builds a professional relationship with an experienced mentor. Mentors and mentees meet to discuss goals, challenges, and professional development.  After a year’s time, our trainees are armed with a vast set of skills and a keen awareness of trading strategy, culled from the decades of combined experience of their mentors.
